Correction of Breast Asymmetry

Difference in size between the two breasts is common but usually not particularly great. Where the differences are more marked a number of techniques are available to correct the asymmetry depending on the degree of difference in size or shape between the two sides. Implants or expanders can be used to enlarge the smaller side and/or a reduction or mastopexy (uplift) can be performed on the larger or more pendulous side to correct the asymmetry. The particular treatment required will be discussed after examination.

A general anaesthetic and overnight stay are required. The dressings are changed at one week post-operatively and a sports bra is worn until 6 weeks post-operatively.

Patients usually return to work after two weeks and to sporting activities after one month.
